IRA'S ART
Ceramics/Jewelry/Glass/Bronze/Wood/Oil & Water Painting
ALASKAN Resident for 39 years
Delighting prominent Fine Art Collectors for nearly half a century, Ira's artwork is on display in Mansions,
Museums and Fine Art Galleries all around the globe.
Ira began selling his art in the Bay area and Northern California in 1961. At that time he was into oil and watercolors. His works were in the Hobart Brown galleries in Eureka and Palm Springs, (honored to share space with Morris Graves). After studying watercolors by Zumwalt and C. Beck, oils by A. White and W. Parker, Ira moved on to explore other art mediums including wood carving, creating unique jewelry with silver, gem stones and coral. For a time he worked with Al Jakela doing bronze sculpture, working from live nude models using the lost wax process and even doing their own foundry work -- pouring their own bronze sculptures start to finish.
Ira moved to Alaska in 1969 and maintains his home and studio on an island where the rain forest meets the sea. For years he concentrated on post-fire reduction ceramics, or Raku. When not fishing he is busy at his home studio creating art; original hand carved vessels, small pedestal pieces and wall decor. Japanese tea masters have purchased his Raku tea bowls, and his Native Masks, Alaskan Fish and other ceramics have been shipped to New Zealand, England, France, Germany and other points of the world.
A recent visit found Ira hard at work in his private studio, melting glass and creating stunning new works of art - soon to be released.
Check back as we add more of Ira's artwork including ceramic fish, Alaska salmon, Alaska bottom fish, eskimo and native masks, and glacier gems; handmade beads and gemstones of gold, silver, and beach glass found near Petroglyph beach on Wrangell Island.
